Dreamland Pool

You can faintly make out a diver...there is one there!

My son belongs to a local volunteer fire department that trains every Tuesday evening.  We were invited to watch them practice water rescue and scuba diving.
It took place at Dreamland Pool, now a shell of a once spectacular pool with a grand building that was so popular in the 40's and 50's that many 'famous' people performed there, including Benny Goodman.
My mother has fond memories of attending many dances held on the Promenade floor which overlooked the pool. That building, sadly, caught fire and burned to the ground in the 70's.

Back to the rescue training, I caught a few pictures that show both the training and the flavor, if you will, of the pool.  It was a great way to cool off after another sweltering day!

Deborah....thanks for your lovely comment on my blog... I really think that you should do "thoughtless Thursday"...oh how much fun you could have!!! Love the photos of the pool, sorry that its not in its original splendor, it always make me sad when old things from the past get demolished or damaged by fire etc... feels like you have lost something!

Cheers for now darlin!

It's too bad that pool couldn't be restored to it former beauty...great that it is being used for some good training though.
